The first robbery occurred at 6:27 a.m. Thursday, March 23, and involved an 89-year-old man on New York Avenue. The suspects struck him in the chest and stole his jacket, cash and cell phone, police said.
A minute later, a 45-year-old woman was robbed on Baltic Avenue. The suspects stole her cell phone, Kindle and lunch bag, police said.
Four minutes later, the suspects allegedly threatened an 84-year-old man into turning over his car keys on Indiana Avenue.
The final robbery occurred at 7:38 AM at California and Pacific avenues. The suspects approached a victim, 21, who was in a car and ordered her out of the vehicle at gunpoint. The suspects tried to steal her vehicle but were unsuccessful, police said. One of the suspects struck the victim in the head with a gun. The suspect fled after the victim began to yell for help.
Surveillance cameras and help from security at Bally's Atlantic City Hotel & Casino ultimately led to the suspects' arrest on foot, police said.
After a search, the vehicle used in the first three robberies was located on Pennsylvania Avenue. The vehicle had been reported stolen during a carjacking on Monday, March 20 from Prince George’s County, MD, police said. One of the arrested suspects was in possession of the keys to that vehicle, they said. Detectives recovered stolen items inside.
Their handguns and rifle turned out to be Airsoft guns, police said.
Law enforcement in Prince George’s County, MD, was notified about possible charges in that jurisdiction.
Arrested and charged with carjacking, robbery and weapons offenses were Dvaughndre Adams, 18, of Hyattsville, MD; Amari Wrights, 18, of Atlantic City; a 14-year-old boy from Fort Washington, MD; and a 13-year-old boy from District Heights, MD.
The adults were additionally charged with employing a juvenile in theft of auto. They were taken to Atlantic County Justice Facility.
The juveniles were taken to Harborfields Youth Detention Facility.
“I am extremely proud of the fine work of the officers and surveillance center personnel who quickly apprehended four brazen and violent perpetrators.” said Atlantic City Police Chief James Sarkos.
